Like a Dream

“Get away from me! This is yours and Dad’s fault! I guess you got your wish!” Alexandria shouted.

Big tears rolled down Georgia’s face. At that moment Alexandria could tell her mother wished she was anywhere but there, listening to her child say those words to her.

“I never wanted this to happen. You have to believe me. Your father and I love you so much. If you don’t believe anything else we say, you must believe that, please, Alex,” she begged.

“I just want to be left alone, Mom.”

“Okay, I’ll be back in an hour. The doctor said nothing was broken from the fall and that we can take you home,” she assured.

“Nothing broken, except my heart,” Alexandria huffed under her breath. Georgia sadly walked out of the room. Alexandria continued to cry as she thought about her innocent baby, who never got a chance. She hated herself for not telling Cash right away about the pregnancy and now their baby is gone forever. She missed him so much.

After an hour went by, the doctor came in and informed her that she was free to go home. As he talked, she couldn’t decipher what he was saying. Her mind was elsewhere and she was numb. When he asked if she had any pain, she couldn’t even articulate a response.

“She’ll be fine, Doctor, thank you. We’ll take good care of her,” Georgia guaranteed with a smile. She helped Alexandria off the bed and kissed her cheek.

“Let’s go home, honey. You need to lie down.”

When they got home, Alexandria slowly walked into the house and headed for the stairs.

“No, why don’t you lie down here on the couch. I don’t want you going upstairs so soon after… well, you know,” Georgia suggested.

Still upset with her parents, Alexandria rolled her eyes and walked over to the couch without saying a word. Collin strolled in the door and swiftly headed into the kitchen. Alexandria glanced in his direction with disdain. He still hadn’t even acknowledged what had happened or apologized to her. This was his fault, after all.

“Alexandria, are you hungry? You should probably eat something,” Georgia asked while following behind him.

“No thanks. I don’t think I can eat right now,” she replied as she carefully slid onto the couch. The moment she closed her eyes, she fell asleep.

In her dream, she was walking on the beach wearing a pale blue bikini and black sunglasses. She could smell the salty ocean water and feel the sun bearing down on her hot skin. The warm sand was soft between her toes. As she walked toward the water, someone wrapped their arms around her waist and squeezed her so tight she thought she would suffocate. She swung around came face to face with Cash. He had the warmest smile on his face. She was captivated by his beautiful long silky black hair, his towering body that shielded her from the sun, and his muscular arms that made her feel so safe. When he softly touched her face and leaned in for a kiss, she lost herself in his love. She never wanted that moment to end and waited in anticipation as he opened his mouth to say…
