Dark Daylight

Dark Daylight

When deathly howls fly

And the stars prick the sky

Stand firm and peer out

You know why

The deep night is bold

And the morning rain is cold

But you, stand firm

Because the light will unfold

Will you live by day

Or throw it all away

For if she comes

You will have no say

I speak what I know

Though I’m now a whisper, a beau

I did a terrible thing

And the witch revealed my woe

I do not envy your plight

A murderer deserves no slight

But peer out—or run—or die

Five minutes until daylight
