Today I went to get a professional photo taken for my upcoming novel and I swear this entire self publishing process feels like I’m having another child (minus the excruciating pain from the contractions). There is so much anxiety and hard work that goes into publishing a book.
The writing and editing alone makes you want to pull your hair out. You sit down and write your heart out just for someone to tell you to make a million changes. Even though it’s our decision to make the final changes, we know it’s in our best interest to listen to the professional. After that its cover designs, author bios, blurbs etc. Then once you have a finished product, it gets stamped with an ISBN. So…how is this similar to having a baby?
It can take months to even years to make a baby, and once you’re pregnant you’re told how and what to eat and you get a huge list of what and what not to do. Once again, it’s up to us to make the decision but if you want a healthy baby, you listen to the professionals.
When the book is finally ready for the world you get all excited and decide to throw yourself a book launch party, I mean after all, you deserve it. Everyone should see your finished product.
When your child is ready to be born, you get through the final gory details of the birth and it’s finally here. Your baby gets stamped with his own number (social security) 😉 A lot of people have sip and sees when the baby arrives, so that the family can see your finished product.
Now comes the hard part. Getting good out and promoting your book and praying that word of mouth will be in your favor. I hope that when my novel comes out people will love it and appreciate the hard work I put into it.
I’ve had my 2 kids and God willing we won’t have any more, because now the hard part is here (raising them).
I’m proud of my upcoming novel, Like a Dream, and I’m extremely proud of my kids and in the end, that’s what’s important.
